Cat Berge takes ‘Le haute route’ (The high route) in 2012
Cat never gets enough of cycling nor challenges. She found a new challenge in Europe, wanting to once trying a European Cyclosportive: This time in Europe. Le Haute Route, the High Route, in the French Alps. With600 top-trained racers from at least 25 countries. Geneva Switzerland to Nice France. This is the toughest and highest cyclosportive in the French Alps. 19 mythical Alpine cols will challenge cyclists over the 7 timed stages, including Madeleine, Glandon, Izoard, Cime de la Bonette and the famous climb to Alpe d'Huez for an epic individual time trial. The Haute Route highlights the cols and ascents that have created the legend of cycling..
Alltech Life Sciences was key sponsor for this event. Cat raced extremely well in a very competitive field. The first 3 days she stood on the podium with the world championess in cycling, Emma Pouly, and the French champion in duathlon and she was first 40+ woman. Helas, on the fourth day, during the time trial up Alp d'Huez, Cat over-heated, and got heat exhaustion. She fell after the finish line, and this was the end of her race. That day, she was third overall, and 1st woman 40+. Sometimes we can not fullfill all our dreams, but have to be happy with the destination we reached.
